METAL LAMINATES
What are metal laminates?
Metal laminates are decorative surfacing materials made by bonding a thin layer of real metal only or metal foil to a backing substrate. They combine the aesthetic appeal of metal with the practicality and ease of use of traditional laminates.
What are your metal laminates made of?
They are made using real metal (aluminium, copper, brass, etc.) or metal foils laminated onto a substrate like phenolic or HPL (high-pressure laminate).
- 100 & 200 Series: Metal foil of brass, copper and aluminium with laminate backing
- 300 Series: Metal foil with laminate backing, Solid Brass, Copper and Aluminium
- 600 Series: Printed Aluminium – Metal only (Non-backed)
- 900 Series: Anodised Aluminium – Metal only (Non-backed)
Can our metal laminates be used on countertops?
Our laminates are recommended for vertical or low-wear applications such as feature walls, cabinetry, signage, and displays— we recommend for light-use horizontal surfaces only.
Are any of your laminates suitable for exterior use?
Yes! Our exterior rated finishes are #600 Weathered Aluminium, #601 Deep Bronze Aluminium, #606 Blackened Aluminium, #607 Core Aluminium, #608 Gotham Aluminium, #609 Gilt Aluminium, #613 Ember Aluminium, #614 Beowulf Aluminium, #625 Existential Aluminium.
How do I cut the metal laminates?
Our laminates can be cut with standard woodworking tools like CNC router, overhead router, panel saw or table saw.
Do you supply edge tapes?
No we do not supply edge tapes. Our laminates can be cut into strips using an edge bander or our metal only products can also be bent up to 90degrees to a 2-3mm radius in a light press brake.
Alternatively we would recommend a contrasting ABS edge tape.
How are metal laminates installed?
They are typically adhered to MDF or similar substrates using a clear contact adhesive. Refer to our technical data guide in our resources section for best practices.
Are your metal laminates fire-rated?
Yes!
Please see our resources section for fire certificates for each series.
How do I clean and maintain metal laminate surfaces?
A “less is best” approach is preferred when it comes to cleaning the metals. Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads as they may scratch the metal surface.
Can your metal laminates be curved or formed?
Yes. Our metal-only laminates can be formed or bent to a radius of 2–3mm using a light press brake. This is useful for wrapping columns or creating custom architectural elements. Our backed finishes can achieve a gentle curve.
Do the metal laminates come with a protective film?
Yes. Our metal laminates are shipped with a removable protective film to help prevent surface scratches during fabrication and installation.
Can I apply the metal onto gyprock?
Our Decorative Sheet Metal Laminates work best on completely flat, even surfaces that are free of debris. Therefore, raw gyprock is not recommended.
However if you paint or seal the wall first that can seal in any dust in the gyprock.
What are your shipping times?
Generally we advise to allow between 3-7 business days for Australia wide.
Our batch manufactured finishes will depend upon the scope of the project however generally we advise a 4-8 weeks lead time.
